Holidays and Reflections / by Leslie Fandrich

All of a sudden it's Christmas around here! We got our tree over the weekend, put up the lights outside, hung all the decorations inside and there is simply no denying it anymore. It's time to make lists, go shopping and get the house ready for friends and family. So, from my happy home to yours: Happy Holidays.

Yesterday was a snow day and the kids were home, so we decided to make a fun video. I'm so thrilled with how Milo and Quinn participated. They were really into it! It's 6 minutes long and I hope you enjoy it, especially those family and friends that we miss so much and won't get to see this year. We love you guys.

I'm taking the rest of the month off to spend time with my family, I'll be back on Tuesday, January 7th with an interview with local artist Janet Howard for my Creative People series. Janet's paintings and figure drawings are filled with light and color and I can't wait to share her wisdom with you next month.

The end of the year always finds me reflecting back on what has happened and I'm usually excited to look back through my pictures and pick out the most meaningful ones. This year is different though. This year when I look back I see my Mom at the end of her life.

I debated whether or not to do a collection of photos from this year, but in the end I decided that it's important not to ignore what has happened, even if I'm not happy about it. It's part of my story and maybe there is some healing that comes from looking back and reflecting on that time.

So, with that sentiment in mind, I've selected ten images from each month of the last year. When you stack them all up together it's been an amazing year, despite the feelings of loss in March and April.

A Year in Pictures: 2013

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.
— Confucius

Looking back I'm really happy to see so many pictures of my family. My kids and husband have been a vital part of my healing this year. I'm sad to see so few pictures of my sisters but I hope to make up for that next year.

Wishing all of you a healthy and happy new year! I hope that 2014 will bring even more creativity and joy to my life, and to yours.

Cheers! See you back here in January.
