I utilize a “dry” collage process that allows for more precision and control over the compositions. Book pages are coated back and front with polymer gloss medium, allowed to dry and then cut with an X-acto knife on a self healing mat. The cut out elements are laid out on a large table and arranged by color or subject matter. Finding pieces that work or fit together is an intuitive process that is guided by formal decisions about shape, color and texture. Pieces are joined together with a heated tacking iron between pieces of non-stick “release” paper. Final compositions are mounted to 4-ply mat board.
